Key formulas to memorize

Trigonometric identities

table with tan(x)=sin(x)/cos(x), sin^2 x+cos^2 x=1, sin(-x)=-sin(x), cos(-x)=cos(x), and sin(2x)=2sinx cosx

Geometric formulas

area of a circle   A = pi r^2   r=radius
circumference of a circle   C = 2pi r   r=radius
area of a rectangle   A = l w   l=length, w=width
perimeter of a rectangle   P = 2l + 2w   l=length, w=width
area of a triangle   A = (1/2) b h   b=base, h=height
volume of a rectangular solid   V = lwh   l=length, w=width, h=height
volume of a right circular cylinder   V = pi r^2 h   r=radius, h=height
volume of a right circular cone   V = (1/3)pi r^2 h   r=radius, h=height
volume of a sphere   (4/3) pi r^3   r=radius

Distance and slope

graph showing positions a,b on x-axis and c,d on y, with corresponding horizontal and vertical distances
graph showing points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2)
distance = sqrt((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2), slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
Practice

We're just memorizing formulas again: before doing the practice problems, go back and be sure that you've got the formulas for the trigonometric identities, geometric forms, and distances and slope memorized. Then do the following. You should be able to do these without having to go up and refer to the formulas above.

Note that you can get new practice problems by clicking the "Refresh" button at the bottom of the practice set.

For each of the following, enter pi as "pi". (So to enter 4pi, type "4pi" -- not "4(pi)" or "4*pi".) Enter any undefined result by typing "undef". Use the notation "sqrt(x)" to indicate the square root of x.
